What it does

One record, from Year 11 to graduation.

Tohu has a half for school and a half for university, and one switch between them. Nothing is lost when you switch — your transcript carries both.

Credits and certificates

Every standard you sit, at every level, with what it banked. Literacy and numeracy are counted off NZQA’s own register, including Te Reo Matatini.

Endorsements, done right

Course endorsement at Achieved, Merit or Excellence — 14 credits, with 3 internal and 3 external among them, in one school year. The rule most trackers get wrong.

University Entrance, and the university you wantNew

Your approved subjects, read off NZQA’s list rather than guessed. Then pick the universities and degrees you’re applying to and see your rank score, the subject credits each one asks for, and exactly what is still missing.

Goals that plan themselves

Aiming for Merit, University Entrance, or Excellence in one subject? Tohu works out the grade every standard still to sit has to come back at, across all your subjects — and what the next one would do for your endorsement before you sit it.

ScholarshipsNew

NZ Scholarship on its own scale — Outstanding, Scholarship or no award — kept apart from your credits. And the university, trust and iwi scholarships you apply for: what each is worth, when it closes, and where your application is at. Paste a scholarship’s link and Tohu fills it in for you Tohu PLUS

Mocks and homework

Your school’s own tests, marked out of 100 or in grades, and the homework due this week. Neither can leak into your NCEA credits.

Each subject, standard by standard

Pick standards from NZQA’s register by subject and level. Results go in as you get them, and the endorsement updates the moment they do.

See how a subject is going

Every subject ends with two graphs: your NCEA credits by Excellence, Merit, Achieved and Not Achieved, and your school mocks and class tests by the grade your school gave, kept apart from your credits.

Set a goal, get a plan

Pick a certificate, University Entrance or a grade for your subjects when you sign up. Tohu tells you which to focus on first, which standards need Merit, which need Excellence and which only need passing — on your subjects, on your calendar and in one list — and says plainly when a goal is out of reach.

Aim at a university, not just UE

Auckland Engineering wants a rank score of 250 and Calculus and Physics credits; Canterbury wants Chemistry too. Pick the degrees you’re applying to and Tohu works out your rank score and the grade each standard still to sit has to come back at to get you in — and lists the portfolios, auditions and interviews it can’t count for you.

The month, at a glance

An essay set on Monday and due on Friday sits across the whole week, so the run-up is as visible as the deadline. Anything overdue rises to the top.

Tohu PLUS

Share a file, gone in a day

With Tohu PLUS, drop in any file up to 50 MB and get a link anyone can open, no account needed. In a school, send it straight to your teachers or classmates instead. Either way it deletes itself after 24 hours.

For schools

Your whole school, in Tohu.

We set your school up and add your teachers. Students join with your school’s code, and from then on your teachers can see every student’s record, verify their results, run classes, share files, and set exams and internals that mark straight into it.

  1. We set up your school

Tell us your school and your teachers. We make the school, add each teacher, and give you a code for your students.

  2. Students join with the code

At sign-up or in Settings, after Tohu tells them what joining lets the school see. They can leave whenever they like.

  3. Teach from one place

Every student’s record, your classes, and your exams — all on one teacher account, shared with the colleagues at your school.

Every student’s record

Open any student at your school to see their subjects, standards and results, and fix what’s wrong. They’re told about every change, with your name on it.

Verified results

What a student enters themselves shows as unverified until a teacher checks it. Verify one result or a whole record at once; what you enter is verified as you go.

Classes

Make a class and give out its code. Post announcements, and answer questions — asked in front of the class, or privately to you.

Your colleagues

See the other teachers at your school and their exams. Share yours with them, or join theirs to help run and mark it.

Files

Hand out a file in seconds. Gone in a day.

Send a worksheet, a recording or a set of slides to the students you pick, and it’s on their dashboard to view or download. Students can send to their teachers and classmates too with Tohu PLUS, and make a link that anyone can open.

  • Any kind of file, up to 50 MB
  • Pick students one by one, or everyone
  • A link anyone can open, no sign-in
  • Everything deletes itself after 24 hours

Tohu Exams

Run your exams and internals in Tohu.

Mocks, school exams and NCEA internals, sat on the devices your students already bring. You set the paper and run the room; Tohu keeps the clock, keeps the work safe, and puts each mark straight into the student’s own record.

  1. Set the paper

Write the questions and attach PDFs and recordings, for the whole paper or each question. Choose a time limit and how strict the lockdown is, up to Zero Trust.

  2. Put the code up

Tohu gives the exam a code to project at the front of the room. Students type it in and write on one clock — a late arrival gets what’s left.

  3. Mark and release

Mark each paper in Tohu. Release the marks together, and each one lands in the student’s record, where they can’t change it.

While they write

The whole room, on one screen.

See who is writing, who has paused and who has handed in. Open any student to read their answers as they stand, pause them, or hand in for them.

  • Pause anyone — the time comes back to them
  • Lockdown records every time they leave
  • Up to five papers on one code
  • Share or join exams across your school

Work that can’t be lost

Answers save as they’re typed. A paused or timed-out paper keeps every word, and sends anything unsaved the moment it’s live again.

Pens down means pens down

When time is up, Tohu stops taking answers — not the student’s laptop clock, which can be wrong.

Lockdown, honestly

No web page can stop a student switching apps. Tohu notices when they do, writes it down, and can pause the paper until you let them back.

Hide screen

A bathroom break covers the paper with one tap. The clock runs on, and nobody can read the screen while they’re gone.

Listening papers

Put a recording on the paper and say how it plays: how many times, and whether students can pause, rewind or skip ahead. Tohu counts every play, so a reload doesn’t give one back.

New · Zero Trust mode

For the papers that matter most.

Set an exam to Zero Trust and it opens only in Safe Exam Browser, the locked-down browser schools already use. Other apps, other sites and screenshots stay out until it is handed in.

Nowhere else works

Outside Safe Exam Browser the questions never load and no answer saves — Tohu’s database checks, not the page.

One button to get in

Students join in their usual browser and press Open in Safe Exam Browser. It opens signed in, straight to their paper. Nothing to type.

You see who’s in

Your list shows which students are writing in Safe Exam Browser, and every time anyone leaves.

No pasting answers in

A Zero Trust paper refuses paste and drop. Answers are typed in the room.
